WWOOFing – tips

If you plan to WWOOF, you will need to make sure you pack certain items and ask the host important questions in advance. Here’s our planning tips.

What you will need:

Clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Strong shoes
Sunscreen
Insect repellent
Gloves
Water bottle
Rain gear

Tips:

Before approaching a farm, ask yourself what work you are happiest with – animals, plants or maintenance.

Do as much online research into potential locations as possible and try to build up a rapport with your host beforehand to see if you get on.

Take into consideration what type of hosts you will have. For example, if you don’t like children, avoid a family farm etc.

Make sure you know exactly what is expected of you in terms of hours and type of work to avoid any misunderstandings later.

Find out exactly what the board involves to avoid disappointment. Ask if involves camping? Shared bathrooms? And is there WiFi – if that is important to you?

Don’t take any risks with your safety. Don’t drive a tractor or or use machinery if you’re not comfortable with it.

Choose a location you will enjoy.
