The Canadian city of Toronto has it all. A beautiful waterfront, world class museums, high end shops and a thriving multicultural foodie scene. While it’s hard to choose a top 5 to do list, these are the things that we feel are absolute MUSTS while you’re in Toronto.

The Royal Ontario Museum:

The ROM is one of the best natural history museums in the world, with an immense dinosaur exhibition, including many endemic Canadian species. Don’t miss the First Nations gallery, a collection of cultural heritage treasures from the diverse Indigenous communities of North America.

CN Tower:

The CN Tower lift zooms at 346m at 15mph.  Walk around the observation capsule and look out over Lake Ontario and the city skyline. You can watch the planes taking off and landing from Billy Bishop Airport on Toronto Island, and don’t forget to test your bravery on the section of glass floor – a dizzying view straight down to the aquarium below. The truly brave (or bonkers!) can strap on a harness and head OUTSIDE on the CN Tower Edge Walk – a full lap around the observation pod, along a ledge 116 stories above the ground. Eeek!

The Distillery District:

The Distillery District is a pedestrianised cobblestone area is a beautiful place for a stroll, dinner or drinks. The historic 19th century buildings that once made up the Gooderham and Worts Distillery have been converted into little independent boutiques and art galleries selling: jewellery, shoes and at SOMA, stunning artisanal chocolate. If you’re visiting over the Festive Season, this is where Toronto has its Christmas Market. If you’d like to try some excellent craft beers, we’d recommend a tasting night at Mill Street Brew Pub.

Niagara Falls:

Ok, so Niagara Falls is not technically in Toronto, but since it’s only 1 hour 40 minutes drive away from the city, you can’t miss the chance to visit this natural wonder. There are several different visitor passes that you can buy, depending on which attractions you’d like to do. Of course, you can see the waterfall for free, but at least take the awe-inspiring boat trip to the bottom of the Falls where you’ll be up close and personal with the thundering horseshoe shaped wall of water on 3 sides of you!

Graffiti Alley:

Rush Lane, better known as Graffiti Alley, is 3 blocks of magnificent murals. Photography heaven! Some of these works of art are literally the size of the building they’re painted onto, and the creativity is astonishing.

Bonus tip, have lunch in St Lawrence Marketa beloved Toronto landmark. Set within a 19th century building, that was once the city hall and jailhouse, stalls sell cheese, coffee, fruit and vegetables, fish, meat, bread, meze, even souvenirs. Do a circuit of the stalls and decide what you want to eat –  we recommend the peameal bacon sandwich!
