Kuala Lumpur: my top 5 by @mikesbucketlist

KL is a must in Asia! Here are 5 essentials ranked:

1. Petronas Towers:

Petronas Towers and Park  – not only should you see the view from the towers by day, but check them out at night and also from the ground. In the surrounding parks are the most climbing frames I’ve ever seen in one place!

2. Thean Hou Temple:

Thean Hou Temple – take a taxi here and see this awesome Chinese temple. It was my biggest surprise in KL. It’s really grand and out back in the garden are an amazing collection of little turtles piled up in a pond.

3. Batu Caves:

Batu Caves – make sure you include a quirky stop to see this 100 year old temple built into 3 limestone caves with idols and statues inside.

4. Jalan Alor:

Jalan Alor is THE place to eat outside in a hawker style environment. Try chicken wings at Wong Ah Wah and coconut ice cream at Sangkaya.

5. Sri Mahamariamman:

Sri Mahamariamman Temple is a beautiful Hindu temple which is KL’s oldest.

Mike:

I was a late traveller and didn’t start exploring the world until I left my corporate desk job when I was 27. Since then, I have visited 87 countries with my current target at 100. COVID has slowed this down, but I am determined in the next couple of years to reach it! I used to travel alone but now have my wife and daughter to keep me company. My favourite places are Peru, Indonesia and Brazil. I started mikesbucketlist to help people find quirky places that are not in the guidebooks and to make lists that are not found on the web. You will always find me travelling on a budget, enjoying hiking, eating local food and immersing myself in culture. Home is where the heart is, the world is where I live. Come check out my lists at @mikesbucketlist
