Holiday Rep – the lowdown

Job:

The title includes a variety of roles: customer service reps, kid’s club staff, entertainment team etc. They all involve being the face of the company and providing excellent service to clients. Ultimately, your job is to make sure the customer’s holiday is the very best. You will be working for a company.

Skills:

You will need to be an extrovert and a fast-acting, problem solver.

You will need to confident, flexible, energetic and hard-working.

Some companies will employ you at 18 and others at 21. Unless you are working in childcare, no qualifications are needed, but good GCSE and A levels can help.  Having been a rep before is a bonus.

Language skills can be a plus.

Pros:

A weekly wage.

Free accommodation – although it could be basic or shared.

Travel to and from your location is included

Free insurance and uniform.

Use of facilities – swimming pools, tennis courts, etc. and sometimes free full or half board.

You will get enough time off to enjoy yourself, experience the culture and party (but don’t let the guests see you drunk!).

Cons:

It’s a hard and relentless job. A Resort Rep spends most of their time, and a lot of energy, apologising and keeping guests happy.  Guests need someone to shout at and that role goes to the Rep.

Transfer days have early starts and late finishes. Plus, flight delays, grumpy passengers and long coach journeys are frequent.

The job has a lot of responsibility and remember you spend more time with the guests with the problems.

Working through the whole Summer season can feel relentless and claustrophobic.
