Canada – the Gap Year pros and cons

Canada is becoming increasingly popular for Gap Year and adventure travel. If you can secure a IEC Working Holiday Visa, then there’s a great choice of jobs in the country of  jaw-dropping scenery, iconic National Parks, stunning wildlife and cool cities.

Pros:

The variety of jobs-from camp counselling and seasonal jobs in ski and Summer resorts to internships and city jobs.

The vast selection of adventure activities: skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, white water rafting and hiking…plus amazing wildlife spotting opportunities.

No language barrier AND you can also make the most of Canada’s bi-lingual status by improving your French working in Quebec.

Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal are cool cities to live in.

The food is great and the Canadians are very welcoming.

Cons:

The IEC Working Holiday Visa is limited and operates via a pool system.

Canada is cold for much of the year and although this means great skiing, Summer weather can be on the cooler side apart from a few pockets like Southern Ontario.

Canada is vast and getting from one coast to another can be time consuming and expensive.

Internal flights are often more expensive than international flights in Canada.
