Bar Staff – the lowdown

Job:

Serving drinks and keeping the bar clean. Sometimes food serving is involved. You probably won’t be working for a company.

Skills:

Bar experience is essential, as resort bars are busy.

Language skills are a massive plus and often a determining factor.

Pros:

A sought after job, as you get free drinks.

Working bar hours can free up time for skiing during the day.

Everyone wants to be your friend and you’ll be at the centre of the action.

Cons:

Unless you’re lucky enough to working for a company in a hotel or chalet hotel, you won’t get free accommodation, food or ski pass and kit. All of which adds up.

The majority of bar staff have to find their own lodgings which can be expensive or far out.

The constant combination of late nights and early morning cleaning can lead to burn out.
