Mexico: hotel cleaning by @underflowerysky

Author:

Gabi- @underflowerysky and underflowerysky.com

Location:

Casa Anthakarana, El Nogalito, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico

Job:

Cleaning

Daily routine:

8am – usually starting with a coffee and then sweeping the leaves in the courtyard. The next task is then decided on, or cleaning the rooms, or the saloon, starts.

10am – breakfast. Cleaning the rooms continues or other tasks like gardening (I even did some painting). Task finish around 2pm, maybe even before.

3pm – lunch

Would suit:

Nature lovers, as it was totally immersed with nature. There were a few shops in the village and the sound of the river made the atmosphere just fabulous.

It would suit those that are willing to work hard, as the working schedule almost corresponds to working hours in paying positions at large hotels.

Accommodation:

Rooms are beautifully decorated and for 2 people – with an ensuite toilet and shower.

You have access to kitchen facilities and hammocks.

Pros:

Fabulous tropical feeling, being surrounded by nature in a peaceful place

Close to the amazing city Puerto Vallarta – one of the most touristic places in Mexico.

Living for free and exploring beautiful beaches nearby

The chance to learn about massage and spa treatments from the hosts

Cons:

It’s slightly secluded from the beaches and town and so you have to rely on your own company

It can be physically demanding;

Lunch could be small sometimes, so you could stay hungry. On days off you’re not allowed to have meals.

To sum up:

Casa Anthakarana is a beautifully decorated family guesthouse with massage and spa features and a lovely garden pathway. It offers an eco experience with a dozen self catering rooms specially for families and groups. The beautiful saloon can be used for events and games like billiards or ping pong. We would rate this volunteer experience 4/5.

I stayed for a month, but one month on the Worldpackers programme is actually 25 days.
